Parenting a 20-Something Couch Potato? Experts Offer Advice

Think Global: Two psychologists offer parents practical advice on what they can and cannot do when their children “fall off the adult track” in this Chicago Tribune article.   

“Failure to Launch”  is not only a Matthew McConaughey film, it is also the subject of a 37-page report by the US Census Bureau which looks at the effects of economic shocks on living arrangements.  Why is this happening?

  • Structural economic shifts,
  • A weak economy,  
  • College debt
  • Young men are “considerably more likely than young women to fall off the adult track” according to this article in the San Francisco Chronicle.  
  • There could also be individual factors involved: is your child unambitious?
